Send to Device
Send to Device moves a saved preset from one Ember Noise installation to another directly, over your own local network. There is no Ember account, no cloud relay, and no internet fallback — the preset travels from your device to your device, and nowhere else.
What gets sent
A saved preset and everything it needs: the mix, corner assignments, EQ curves, and any imported sounds the preset references. The receiving device ends up with a working copy of the preset, not a reference to files it doesn’t have.
How it works
- Open Send to Device from the preset menu on both devices.
- The first time, pair the two devices — they exchange identities and remember each other (identities are held in the system Keychain).
- Pick the paired device and send. The transfer is end-to-end encrypted (authenticated HPKE), and the sender reports success only after the receiver has verified the package and durably saved it.
Discovery uses Bonjour on your local network. On iPhone and iPad, the receiving device must have Send to Device open — Ember Noise never runs local-network services in the background, and it asks for Apple’s Local Network permission only when you open this flow. A Mac can keep receiving from the menu-bar app after Nearby Transfer has been activated once, even with the mixer window closed.
What it deliberately doesn’t do
No queued delivery to offline devices, no waking a suspended app, no uploading “temporarily” to a server. If both devices aren’t reachable on the network at the same moment, the transfer simply waits for you — a constraint that keeps your sounds entirely yours.
